ENST 123: INDIGENOUS PERSPECTIVES ON THE ENVIRONMENT (NEW!)

Herbs

This course will offer place-based learning experiences which will include various Indigenous perspectives, experiences, and histories. The lessons and activities will include aspects which encourage students to critically think when presented with environmental issues and Indigenous people. While also finding ways to support tribal communities and their sovereignty. Students will engage with the Native American communities and spaces on campus. This course intends to transform individual student perspectives on the environment, Native Americans, and their own field of study.

ENST 123: GREEN BUILDING

Cob Creation         Natural Building Class    

 

 

This course is intended to create a foundation in natural building techniques. Students will work hands on with alternative building materials including cob, hempcrete, and repurposed materials. Students will be provided a brief history behind the techniques covered. This course will demonstrate, through smaller projects, techniques that can be applied to residential design as well as survival. The class will also seek out materials traditionally seen as “trash” and repurpose them.

 

This course will include guest speakers as well as field trip opportunities.

This course is intended to create a foundation that enables each student to successfully plan, plant and harvest an organic garden of their own. Once the basic skills are acquired, growing our own food is one of the most empowering things we can do. It is simultaneously a way to save money, eat healthy, create community and live sustainably.

ENST 123: URBAN HOMESTEADING

Bee Keeping Class Tule Fog Farm Tour

This course will explore various components of an urban homesteading system that can be implemented in any situation. It will provide a hands-on approach in which students will have the opportunity to hone, develop, and share skills that they already have or are interested in learning, as well as be exposed to new skills that will be shared by other students.

Students will have the opportunity to get direct experience with incoming CCAT PIGS!
